The Dacia Sandero was the best-selling car in Europe in 2024, with more than 300,000 units registered across the continent, Diariomotor reported.
The Sandero is mainly built in Morocco, where Renault-Dacia operates two factories in Tangier and Casablanca. A third production site is in Mioveni, Romania, but most of the supply comes from the Moroccan plants, which have become key players in the European car industry.
Despite its modest design, the Sandero has become a sales phenomenon, the automotive publication asserts. It was the best-selling car in Europe last year, with more than 300,000 registrations across the continent, including 28,000 in Spain alone.
It also topped the sales chart in Spain, beating competitors like the MG ZS, Seat Ibiza, Seat Arona, and Toyota Corolla.
Diariomotor attributed the car’s popularity to its affordability. The Sandero starts at just 13,490 euros in Spain, making it one of the most affordable cars on the market. The Sandero is also a practical choice for many European buyers facing rising living costs.
Morocco has become a major hub for car production in recent years, attracting global automakers with its strategic location, competitive costs, and growing industrial infrastructure.
Cities like Tangier and Casablanca host large-scale factories for brands such as Renault-Dacia and Peugeot. All of these factors, in addition to their proximity to Europe, has brought Morocco to the top as the leading car exporter in Africa.
The Moroccan government has supported this growth with industrial zones, incentives, and investments in training programs for the automotive workforce.
The country’s auto industry now produces hundreds of thousands of vehicles each year for both domestic sales but primarily for export to Europe and other markets.
With ongoing investments in technology and sustainability, Morocco aims to strengthen its position as a global automotive hub.
