The Moroccan experience in developing various handicraft trades and products was showcased on Tuesday during the Ministerial Conference of the Coordination of North African Countries of the Organization for the Development and Promotion of African Handicrafts (ODEPA), held in Nouakchott.
This two-day conference (September 15–16) provided an opportunity to highlight the initiatives undertaken in Morocco to support professionals in the handicrafts sector, said Adil Fenjiro, who is leading the Moroccan delegation, which also includes Meryem Alaoui from the supervising ministry, and Abderrahim Zemzami, President of the Handicrafts Chamber of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, in a statement to MAP.
He recalled that, over the past three years, four training sessions were organized for the benefit of 146 artisans from different ODEPA member countries in several fields (leatherwork, fashion design, traditional sewing, and jewelry-making), stressing the importance of sharing best practices in this area among member states of the Organization.
He added that a session was also held for officials in charge of the handicrafts sector in ODEPA countries, while additional training sessions are scheduled this year in other areas.
Held under the theme “Regional Integration and the Development of Handicrafts,” this event provided an opportunity to exchange views on ODEPA’s role in strengthening regional integration and promoting the principles of the social and solidarity economy.
