New port infrastructure, particularly that inaugurated Thursday by HM King Mohammed VI as part of the restructuring and development program for the Casablanca Port Complex, is “a strategic advance” for global economy and international trade, said the president of the Tarragona Port Authority, Santiago José Castella.
In a statement to MAP, Castella said that Morocco, which is experiencing sustained economic growth, believes that “the future of the global economy and international markets lies in ports.”
In this regard, he noted that the new Casablanca port complex falls in line with the “impressive” momentum of the port of Tanger Med, unlocking new opportunities for cooperation with Spain and Europe.
Castella emphasized the integrated nature of these infrastructures, giving pride of place to the fishing industry, and making Casablanca “one of the most important fishing hubs in the Euro-Mediterranean area,” while bolstering the Kingdom’s attractiveness in other economic activities.
According to the Spanish official, the emergence of a stronger port ecosystem in Morocco will contribute to the Kingdom’s economic development and growth, as well as promoting Moroccan expertise and innovation in the region.
