World leaders gathered in New York today for the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with Israel’s genocide in Gaza and Russia’s war on Ukraine dominating discussions.

US President Donald Trump used his 55-minute speech – far longer than the usual 15-minute guideline – to deliver a wide range of controversial remarks.

At the start of his address, Trump said the war on Gaza must stop “immediately.” He also spoke about Ukraine, saying he had believed his good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin would have helped end the war, but admitted it has been more difficult than expected.

The US president then shifted to attacking migration and climate policies. He accused European countries such as Germany, Greece, and Switzerland of being ruined by “open borders,” declaring, “Your countries are going to hell.”

He commended his own policies of detaining and deporting migrants, claiming they stopped illegal crossings into the US.

Regarding climate, Trump called climate change “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world” and described the idea of carbon footprints as a “hoax.” He dismissed renewable energy as costly and ineffective, warning that countries sticking with “green scams” would fail.

Trump also promised to lead global enforcement against biological weapons, proposing an artificial intelligence system to monitor compliance with international conventions.

The speech included personal attacks, such as his claim that London’s Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan, wanted to impose Sharia law in the city, comments likely to spark backlash in the UK.

Despite mocking the UN and criticizing many of its members, Trump ended his speech with an appeal for unity. He said nations must defend their borders, preserve traditions, and “fight, fight, fight” for their freedom.

“I hope it can start right now, right at this moment,” he said, closing his address.
