The upcoming Morocco-Pacific Island Countries Forum will be held in March 2026 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, announced on Wednesday in New York the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Justin Tkatchenko.
“The National Executive Council, Papua New Guinea’s highest authority, has approved the holding of the Morocco-Pacific Island States Forum in Port Moresby in March 2026,” Tkatchenko told reporters following a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.
This “highly anticipated” forum will gather foreign ministers from Pacific Island countries in order to discuss the means of strengthening cooperation ties with the Kingdom of Morocco, he pointed out.
He added that hosting this forum in Port Moresby testifies to the excellent ties between Morocco and Papua New Guinea.
This important diplomatic event aims to take stock of the current state and future prospects for ties between the Kingdom and Pacific Island Countries, as well as highlight the successful experiences in fields of strategic interest to the grouping’s countries.
The 3rd Morocco-Pacific Island Countries Forum, held in February 2020 in Laayoune, was marked by the adoption of the Laayoune Declaration and the signing of several cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding between Morocco and Pacific Island Countries.
