The preliminary rounds of the 2nd edition of the Hadith Nabawi Acharif competition, organized by the Ethiopian branch of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, began on Sunday in Addis Ababa, with the participation of more than fifty candidates.

The candidates, coming from various regions of Ethiopia, are competing in three categories, namely the memorization of forty hadiths along with their chain of transmission (isnad) and text (matn), without the requirement to mention the narrators or provide lexical explanations of the terms; the recitation of thirty-five hadith texts, with identification of the final narrator of each hadith and comprehension of the meaning of the terms as well as the memorization of twenty-five hadiths related to Ahkam (legal rulings), highlighting the jurisprudential lessons and benefits they convey.

At the opening of the competition, organized in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia, Othman Skalli Houssaini, Financial Director of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, emphasized that the event reflects the High Solicitude and interest of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, in the Hadith Nabawi Acharif, as the second source of Islamic legislation after the Holy Quran.

He also noted that this competition aligns with the Sovereign’s commitment to religious values, particularly moderation, balance, and the strengthening of solidarity and unity among African peoples.

Skalli Houssaini further recalled that the organization of these preliminary rounds coincides with the message addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, to the Supreme Council of Ulema on the occasion of the commemoration of the 15th century anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed, may Peace and Blessings be upon Him.

For his part, the representative of the Ethiopian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Idriss Mohamed Ali, highlighted the importance of this initiative, which, he said, reflects the interest shown by the Foundation, chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, in strengthening ties with Ethiopia.

He also underscored the pioneering role played by the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, in promoting and spreading the noble values of Islam throughout the African continent.

This competition aims to raise awareness about the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) and highlight its role in Islamic legislation.

It also seeks to encourage African youth to take a special interest in the hadiths and draw inspiration from the noble virtues of the Prophet.

The preliminary rounds of the second edition of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema’s Hadith Nabawi Acharif competition are taking place across the Foundation’s 48 national sections.
