under His Majesty the King’s leadership, strategically opted to place health sovereignty at the core of its development path, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said Tuesday in Nairobi.
Co-chairing a panel on health sovereignty with President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama, Akhannouch emphasized that the vision of health sovereignty and security is taking shape in concrete reforms in Morocco, noting that the Kingdom has chosen to place health sovereignty at the heart of its development trajectory through several strategic priorities for action.
Citing these priorities, the Head of Government highlighted the Kingdom’s global implementation of mandatory health insurance, which now covers 88% of the Moroccan population, as well as restructuring the national health system, achieved notably through strengthened governance, an upgrade of healthcare services, and massive investment in human resources.
It also involves establishing sustainable health financing through mobilizing public resources and public-private partnerships, as well as investment in local drug production, which now helps the Kingdom to meet more than 70% of its national needs, the Head of Government added during this panel discussion held as part of the Africa Forward Summit taking place in the Kenyan capital.
He also noted that recent international health alerts serve as a reminder of epidemiological issues as a major strategic challenge and underscore the need to bolster surveillance and rapid coordination skills while sustainably consolidating our health systems.
It is in this spirit, he continued, that Morocco has joined the National Health Compact, reflecting its commitment to aligning its national priorities with global health objectives.
The Africa Forward Summit brings together several heads of State and government to discuss prospects for strengthening partnerships between Africa and France.
