Morocco and Jordan signed, on Sunday in Amman, two agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the judicial and legal fields
The two agreements, signed by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, and his Jordanian counterpart, Bassam Al-Talhouni, focus on mutual judicial and legal assistance in criminal matters, as well as the transfer of persons sentenced to custodial penalties.
Signed in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Jordan, Fouad Akhrif, and the Director of Criminal Affairs, Pardons and Crime Monitoring at the Ministry of Justice, Hicham Mellati, the two agreements seek to open new prospects for the exchange of judicial and legal expertise and information, and to support the efforts of both countries to consolidate the rule of law and combat cross-border crime.
They will also strengthen joint efforts to fight crime and develop mechanisms for judicial cooperation, by facilitating investigation procedures, information exchange, and the enforcement of judgments, as well as by organizing the surrender of wanted persons in accordance with the national laws of both countries and relevant international regulations, with a view to promoting justice and enhancing community security.
During the signing ceremony, Ouahbi praised the fraternal and historic ties uniting Morocco and Jordan, stressing that the signing of these two agreements reflects the determination of both countries to embody the spirit of partnership that binds them, to strengthen legal and judicial ties, and to exchange expertise and know-how in this field.
For his part, the Jordanian minister described the bilateral relations as historic and solid, noting that they have deepened over the decades in various areas.
He underlined that the visit of the Moroccan delegation falls within the framework of strengthening this bilateral partnership.
This signing, he added, marks an important step in judicial cooperation between the two countries, reflecting as well their political and legal will to build effective and lasting partnerships.
For his part, Akhrif hailed the strong historical and political ties uniting Morocco and Jordan under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His brother King Abdullah II.
The signing of these two agreements supports the growing momentum of bilateral cooperation and strengthens the prospects for a solid partnership in the judicial and legal fields, he noted.
