UN Security Council Resolution 2797 is a “major diplomatic success” for Morocco and “an important step forward” in the process of resolving the Sahara issue, which has been ongoing for half a century, said Sanae Abdi, a member of the German Federal Parliament for the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
The spokesperson for economic cooperation and development of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, which forms the governing coalition with the conservatives of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU), welcomed this UN resolution, as well as the diplomatic initiatives led by HM King Mohammed VI, which were “decisive in achieving this result.”
In a statement to MAP, she highlighted the profound significance of this UN resolution, which sends a hopeful “strong signal beyond the regional framework in favor of peaceful conflict resolution”.
For Abdi, the UN Security Council resolution falls perfectly in line with the spirit of the Green March, which favors peaceful progress, noting that it enshrines the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the only basis for a lasting solution to this regional conflict.
She further noted that the Kingdom is an important strategic partner for Germany in many areas, such as security, the economy, and ecological transition.
