The Moroccan autonomy plan continues to strengthen its international standing as a reference framework for a definitive political solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, stressed Belgian lawyer and international law expert, Patrick Saerens.

Countries around the world are realizing, “one after the other, that the Moroccan autonomy plan is the only path toward lasting peace,” as evidenced by Resolution 2797, recently adopted by the UN Security Council, Saerens told MAP.

The Moroccan autonomy plan thus enjoys the support of major international powers and numerous countries around the world, reflecting a genuine desire to bring this matter to a definitive close through a political and lasting solution based on Morocco’s legitimate rights over its Sahara, he pointed out.

Saerens, also a university professor, further noted that the southern provinces of the Kingdom have emerged as a genuine economic magnet, benefiting from investments and major infrastructure projects carried out in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at transforming this region into a hub for development and cooperation.

These achievements are part of a comprehensive territorial development process that includes every region of the Kingdom, said Saerens, adding that “from Tangier Med in the North to the major Atlantic port of Dakhla in the South, Morocco is experiencing an impressive economic boom that continues to grow year after year.”

Morocco is increasingly playing a leading role as a development engine for the entire African continent, a role that is strengthened by the growth of the southern provinces, which hold a central place in the Royal Atlantic Initiative aimed at opening up the Sahel region to the Atlantic Ocean, the Belgian expert underlined.

He also highlighted the strong symbolism of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March, which represents an undeniable success for the Kingdom in completing its territorial integrity, advancing all its regions, and serving as a model of development and stability for the African continent, he concluded.
