The Protocol amending the Marrakech Agreement instituting the World Trade Organization (WTO), in its part relating to the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, enshrines the rule of eliminating support for Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing, minister delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas.

This agreement also covers the elimination of the subsidy granted to fishing and fishing-related activities concerning an overfished stock, Baitas said during a press briefing held following the cabinet meeting.

These efforts, he added, aim to preserve a sustainable biological level of fisheries resources, noting that achieving these objectives operates according to measures based on “transparency and notification to allow member states to honor their international commitments in this area more effectively.”
