thanks to the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and in line with the Sovereign’s High Guidelines, has undertaken an ambitious reform aiming to anticipate health crises, reorganize the healthcare system and strengthen its governance, in order to ensure a genuine national and regional health sovereignty, said, on Friday in Dakhla, the Deputy Director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health (FM6SS), Youns Bjijou.
Speaking at the opening of the first African Summit on Health Systems and Health Sovereignty, initiated by the FM6SS, Bjijou added that this ambition resting on skills, achievements, experience and dynamism, was bolstered following the COVID-19 pandemic crisis which, according to him, “has profoundly transformed our perception of resilience, for both political and healthcare systems.”
Reflecting on this first Summit, Bjijou stated that it marks the launch of a collective dynamic aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of African peoples for equitable, sustainable, and high-quality access to health services.
He noted that this scientific gathering will address major themes related to the epidemiology of priority diseases, health data, universal health coverage, and the governance of health systems.
Among the highlights of the Summit is the Dakhla Declaration, which will lay out a new vision for strategic South-South partnership in global health. It affirms the determination to make African health sovereignty a continental challenge by 2030, with a clear and compelling roadmap for the entire health and academic ecosystem of the continent, the FM6SS Deputy Director said.
Strategic recommendations will be formulated and translated into concrete actions, mainly through the creation of transversal thematic networks: in economy and health policy, in prevention and in organization of care pathways, he emphasized, adding that these networks will present each year their concrete achievements on the field, mainly their scientific publications.
