Donald Trump has won the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize, receiving recognition for what the football governing body described as his “extraordinary efforts to promote global peace and unity.” The presentation took place Friday at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., during the draw for the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has often been linked with Trump in sporting circles, presented the award onstage, highlighting the former U.S. president’s contributions. “This is your prize, this is your peace prize,” Infantino told Trump, handing him a trophy, a medal, and a certificate.
The FIFA Peace Prize was established to honor “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions.” While the organization has not made the selection process public, reports indicate that a newly formed “social responsibility” committee, led by Myanmar businessman Zaw Zaw, will play a key role in guiding future awards.
Inhis acceptance speech, Trump described the award as “one of the great honours of my life.” He cited his interventions in global conflicts, including efforts in the Congo and between India and Pakistan, claiming these actions prevented large-scale loss of life.
Trump also took the opportunity to praise FIFA’s organizational achievements. “The 2026 World Cup will be an event the likes of which maybe the world has never seen,” he said, commending Infantino for record-breaking ticket sales and asserting that “the world is a safer place now.”
The ceremony brought together FIFA officials, diplomats, and invited guests, signaling the organization’s intent to highlight figures who have influenced global peace initiatives, alongside the buildup to one of football’s most anticipated tournaments.
