Rough seas and dangerous waves are expected along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts starting Friday afternoon, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).

This phenomenon affects the Atlantic coastline from Tangier to Agadir, where wave heights, coming from west to northwest, are expected to vary between 6 and 8 meters, says a maritime weather report issued by the DGM.

According to the same source, waves of 4 to 6 meters are also expected in the Strait of Gibraltar and 3 to 5 meters along the Mediterranean coast from El Jebha to Saïdia, with the highest waves expected on Saturday, January 24.

During this period, high tides are forecast along the Atlantic coast, ranging between 3 and 3.8 meters, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.

At the same time, strong winds from the west will blow from Friday afternoon on the Atlantic coast, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Mediterranean coast, and could continue until Sunday, January 25, 2026, the press release adds.

It is therefore recommended to avoid any maritime activity, stay clear of beaches and seawalls during peak wave times to avoid the risk of being buried or falling, and to monitor local forecasts and follow the instructions of maritime and local authorities, the report emphasizes.
