Morocco ranked 22nd in the 2026 edition of the International Intellectual Property Index, published on March 11, 2026 by the American Chamber of Commerce, confirming for the fourth consecutive year its leadership in Africa and the Arab world in the field of intellectual and industrial property, according to the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

This result reflects the progress made in recent years to strengthen the national intellectual and industrial property environment and support innovation dynamics, OMPIC said in a statement, noting that the Kingdom achieved an overall score of 59.19 points in this edition.

“According to the American Chamber, this ranking is the result of the continuous and structured efforts undertaken by Morocco to strengthen its legal and institutional framework. Several major advances are highlighted, notably the accession to new international treaties, such as the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks and the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement concerning the international registration of industrial designs,” the same source said.

The report also highlights the solid level of patent protection, as well as the establishment of international cooperation mechanisms in patent examination. In this regard, OMPIC has implemented a patent validation system in collaboration with the European Patent Office, as well as Patent Prosecution Highway programs in partnership with several industrial property offices, allowing the acceleration of patent application processing by relying on examination results conducted by partner offices.

Furthermore, the international trade agreements concluded by Morocco have contributed to strengthening the national intellectual and industrial property environment in line with international standards.

Finally, the index underscores that Morocco now has a well-developed national intellectual and industrial property system, enabling it to position itself as the best-performing middle-income economy in the ranking.

This international recognition reflects the positive momentum Morocco is experiencing in the field of industrial property, as evidenced by the steady increase in trademark, patent and industrial design filings, confirming the growing role of industrial property in fostering innovation and enhancing economic competitiveness.
