Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) Abdellatif Hammouchi is conducting a working visit to Vienna on May 5-7, leading a senior security delegation.
The visit includes activities and consultation meetings on multilateral security and intelligence cooperation organized by relevant UN offices. Discussing strengthened bilateral cooperation with Austrian security and intelligence officials is also on the agenda of the trip, according to a statement from the DGSN-DGST hub.
On the multilateral front, the visit forms part of the participation in the 23rd regional meeting by heads of intelligence and security services, held by the UN at the Vienna International Center, aimed at pooling regional efforts to face the threats of terrorist organizations.
Morocco is taking part in this meeting alongside security and intelligence officials from the UAE, Jordan, KSA, Iraq, Libya, Oman, Tunisia, Sudan, Turkey and Pakistan, notes the statement.
During the meeting, Hammouchi outlined the integrated and multidimensional Moroccan model in the fight against terrorism and extremism, while mapping the current ramifications of the terrorist threats in several conflict zones across the globe.
Morocco’s police chief also shared the challenges arising from terrorist threats and the means to confront them under a collective and concerted approach.
During his stay, Hammouchi held talks with his Austrian counterpart Sylvia Mayer, Head of State security and intelligence, focused on ways to strengthen bilateral security partnership, with a view to improving joint cooperation mechanisms and defying common threats.
Both officials tackled topics of common interest, from migration, cross-border crime, human trafficking, terrorism and extremism in all forms, money laundering, arms and drug trafficking, to the exchange of information on international wanted individuals.
The Austrian official hailed Morocco’s national police significant support that helped thwart dangerous terrorist plots, and apprehend extremists operating on Austrian soil.
She also voiced the hope to draw on the Moroccan experience in this regard, underscoring the safety and stability that the Kingdom boasts.
As part of bilateral cooperation, the Moroccan delegation also held meetings with Pakistani, Turkish and Omani security and intelligence representatives, during which they reviewed means of bolstering cooperation with these friendly countries, the statement adds.
