The Liberian Football Association (LFA) is heavily considering former Morocco national team coach Rachid Taousi to lead their national team, the Lone Stars, replacing the previous coach, Thomas Kojo.

According to media reports, Taoussi is among the top candidates for the job, given his deep experience in African football and his CAF Pro License, which aligns perfectly with the new project the LFA is trying to adopt for the upcoming term.

The move comes right after the re-election of LFA President Mustapha Raji for the third term, extending until 2030. The federation wants to start a fresh start before the 2027 AFCON qualification campaign kicks off later this year, scheduled to be hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from 19 June to 18 July 2027.

Raji’s new position has placed the contracting of a new coach among the priorities of the next stage, which gives Taoussi the arrival of extensive experience in both Moroccan and African football.

The Moroccan tactician previously managed the Morocco national team between 2012 and 2013 and has worked with several major clubs, including Wydad Casablanca, Raja Casablanca, and AS FAR Rabat.

Taoussi now sits without a coaching position since leaving Kawkab Marrakech in September 2025, but his experience and tactical background can finally help Liberia break their long qualification drought, and his appointment sees the most notable changes ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
