The Moroccan women’s national team has dropped two places in the latest June 2026 FIFA Women’s World Rankings, moving from 62nd to 64th position.

The new ranking reflects the team’s recent international results, and represents a small setback for the Atlas Lionesses as they continue their preparations for future competitions.

Despite the drop, Morocco remains one of the leading women’s football nations in Africa, holding steady at 4th on the continent behind Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana, and continues to build on the progress achieved in recent years.

The Atlas Lionesses have enjoyed a period of growth on the international stage, highlighted by their historic qualification and Round of 16 run at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as well as strong performances in continental competitions.

But recent mixed results have affected their position in the global rankings, causing the team to slip slightly in the latest June update released by FIFA.

The coaching staff, led by manager Jorge Vilda, and players will now focus on upcoming matches as they aim to improve their performances and climb back up the rankings.

Morocco’s women’s team has shown steady development over the past few years, with a talented generation of players helping raise the profile of women’s football in the country backed by heavy structural investment from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

The latest ranking serves as motivation for the Atlas Lionesses, who will be determined to return to winning ways when they host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) this July, kicking off Group A action against Kenya, Algeria, and Senegal, to strengthen their position on the international stage.
