The Moroccan Cultural Center “Dar Al Maghrib” in Amsterdam hosted its first artistic and cultural event on Saturday, marking the launch of a series of activities aimed at promoting Moroccan culture and strengthening intercultural dialogue between the Kingdoms of Morocco and the Netherlands.
The event was attended by secretary general of the Department for Moroccans Living Abroad, Ismail Lamghari, and Morocco’s ambassador in The Hague, Mohamed El Basri. It brought together around one hundred guests, including leading figures from the Dutch cultural and artistic communities, representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Amsterdam, civil society organizations, and members of the Moroccan community residing in the Netherlands.
According to a statement by the Embassy of Morocco in The Hague, Dar Al Maghrib, a flagship cultural institution, is part of a broader initiative to establish Moroccan cultural centers abroad, in line with the High Royal Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him. The initiative seeks to enhance the Kingdom’s cultural outreach worldwide through an ambitious policy that promotes the richness, diversity, and authenticity of Morocco’s cultural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Lamghari commended the organization of this inaugural cultural event, describing it as a testament to the High Solicitude with which His Majesty the King promotes Moroccan culture as a pillar of national identity, a catalyst for development, and a bridge for dialogue among peoples.
For his part, El Basri noted that this first celebration also reflects the importance attached to preserving Morocco’s diverse national identity, passing on Moroccan cultural values to younger generations, and strengthening the country’s cultural influence on the international stage.
The organization of this first cultural event at the Dar Al Maghrib Center in Amsterdam also demonstrates the positive momentum characterizing relations between Morocco and the Netherlands across numerous fields, particularly in culture, education, the economy, and human cooperation. It serves as a new bridge bringing the two countries closer together and helps reinforce the ties of friendship and cooperation uniting them, the statement underlined.
