2026 World Cup: Canada’s Head Coach Wary of ‘Well-Organized’ Morocco

Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch stated Friday in Houston that his team is preparing to face, in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, “a well-organized Moroccan team with incredible individual talents.”

During the pre-match press conference, the Canadian coach emphasized that the Moroccan team is “extremely well-structured,” highlighting “its tactical maturity and great flexibility on the field, which allow it to fully capitalize on its players’ strengths.”

He added that the positive results achieved by the Atlas Lions have significantly boosted their confidence, which he observed firsthand in Monterrey against the Netherlands.

“The level of confidence and the swagger with which they played that match, we know we’re in for a massive challenge against a really talented team,” he said, expressing nonetheless confidence in his players’ ability to deliver a top-level performance against the Atlas Lions.

For his part, Canadian defender Alistair Johnston reflected on his experience facing Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, warning his teammates about the impressive level of fan enthusiasm expected during that face off.

The defender also noted that the Canadian national team is going through “one of the most promising periods in its history,” describing the match against Morocco as an exciting showdown against “a true giant of world football.”
