French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu highlighted the strategic nature of economic cooperation between France and Morocco, citing the ambitious projects pursued by both countries in areas such as transportation, energy, and cutting-edge technologies.
“Our two countries are working to create new synergies between their companies in order to integrate them into the same value chains,” Lecornu said at a press briefing following the High-Level Meeting (HLM) he co-chaired with Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
He also cited numerous initiatives undertaken by the many small and medium-sized enterprises working together on both shores of the Mediterranean.
Lecornu further praised quality joint actions taken against the terrorist threat, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and irregular migration.
“Trust makes us efficient. It has led to unprecedented operational successes in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, thanks to joint efforts of our police officers and magistrates,” he said.
In this context, he reiterated his country’s commitment to elevating this cooperation “to a higher level in the upcoming months by concluding a comprehensive security agreement.”
Lecornu then spoke of Africa’s “central importance” for both countries, welcoming Morocco’s commitment—under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI—to peace and security in the Sahel and across Africa.
Addressing prospects for bilateral ties, he noted that the two countries are working on drafting a bilateral treaty, “the first France will sign with a country outside the European Union.”
“The goal is to shape our shared future within a single, stable, ambitious framework, tailored to the challenges of the coming decades,” he said.
