Ten years after establishing their strategic partnership, Morocco and China have strong potential to further expand their economic, technological and academic cooperation, Morocco’s ambassador to Beijing Abdelkader El Ansari said.
In an interview with “My China Eye”, broadcast on China.com.cn and produced by the Europe-Africa Center, El Ansari highlighted the momentum spurred by HM King Mohammed VI’s historic visit to China in May 2016, which led to the announcement of a strategic partnership aimed at opening a new chapter in bilateral ties.
The partnership, built on mutual respect, solidarity and converging interests, has significantly deepened exchanges over the past decade, the ambassador said, noting that China is now Morocco’s largest economic partner in Asia and its third-largest trading partner worldwide.
“We have great ambitions for this relationship,” El Ansari said, adding that both countries share the political will to give their partnership broader scope and greater substance.
The Moroccan diplomat called on Chinese companies to play a more active role in the Kingdom’s major development projects, particularly in sectors including automotive, textiles, infrastructure and renewable energy.
He also recalled that Morocco was among the first African and Arab countries to join China’s Belt and Road Initiative in 2017, describing the move as part of Rabat’s efforts to strengthen its integration into major global economic corridors.
Highlighting the political foundations of Morocco-China ties, El Ansari said the two countries share a common vision of international relations based on respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ambassador also pointed to promising areas for future cooperation, including advanced technologies, robotics, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, environmental protection and combating desertification, calling for greater exchange of expertise between the two countries.
He further highlighted Morocco’s cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, gastronomy and its environment of peace and security as key assets that could help attract more Chinese tourists to the Kingdom.
