The progress achieved under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in the diplomatic, economic, social, and religious freedom spheres has made Morocco “a model to serve Africa”, former U.S. Ambassador to Morocco David Fischer said.
“When you think of the progress that the King has made, with the economy, with diplomacy, religious freedoms, trade [your realize that] Morocco has become a model to serve Africa”, Fischer said in an interview with MAP on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne of His Glorious Ancestors.
“The port infrastructure alone is a remarkable story,” the former diplomat said, noting that he was “so impressed” by the Tangier Med Port, which has become “the largest container port in Africa.”
“And we know down in Dakhla, we’re going to see even more,” he noted, referring to the Dakhla Atlantic Port, which, like the high-speed rail line, represents “a great growth story.”
Commenting on this year’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the United States, Fischer described the relationship as “not just a diplomatic formality, but a partnership. It is a recognition of a friendship that helped give birth to the United States.”
According to Fischer, ties between Rabat and Washington are “truly very substantial, multidimensional,” hailing the ties between the two countries that “maintain relationships throughout that part of the world.”
“When I think of the breadth that Morocco and the United States have built, I will use the expression I used before: Morocco is a force extender, and that’s very, very impressive”, the ambassador emphasized.
In his view, the 250th anniversary of relations between Morocco and the United States fully reflects the depth of this partnership. “It is Long, deep, substantial, enduring, and ongoing.”
Looking ahead to the future of bilateral ties, Fischer said he remains “deeply optimistic.” The foundations built by the two countries over the past 250 years, strengthened by multidimensional cooperation and deep people-to-people ties, “gives us an extraordinary platform to go forward,” he said.
Reflecting on his experience as U.S. ambassador to Morocco during president Donald Trump’s first term, the former diplomat said he felt “honored to be part of the American effort in Morocco.”
“I look forward to another 250 years of fabulous relationships,” he concluded.
