Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), expressed optimism about the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to be held in Morocco in 2025, asserting that it will be “excellent” and undoubtedly a “huge success”.
Speaking at a press conference in Abidjan held two days before the final of the current AFCON 2023 between Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, Motsepe conveyed his confidence in the quality of the upcoming tournament. He mentioned that discussions regarding the precise timing of the event will take place after the conclusion of AFCON 2023, currently underway in Côte d’Ivoire.
Motsepe commended the participating teams in AFCON 2023, emphasizing that Africa takes pride in the contributions of Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and all twenty-four teams involved. He highlighted CAF’s objective of enhancing football standards across the continent, with a particular focus on grassroots and school-level football development.
Reflecting on the recent participation of five African nations in the Qatar World Cup (Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Ghana), Motsepe expressed pride in their achievements and anticipated their strong presence in future tournaments.
Motsepe underscored the importance of collaboration and youth engagement in Africa’s success, emphasizing the need for collective effort to facilitate the continent’s development. He emphasized that empowering young people to contribute to Africa’s progress is key to realizing its potential.
