The memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing a strategic dialogue between Morocco and Austria, signed on Wednesday in Vienna, is a new important step in relations between the two countries, stated the Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger.

Speaking to the press following her meeting with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Meinl-Reisinger welcomed the excellence of the historical relations between Morocco and Austria, stressing that they provide a solid foundation to strengthen cooperation in the face of current global challenges.

In this context, Meinl-Reisinger recalled the centuries-old relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria, noting that they date back more than 240 years with the signing of a treaty of commerce and peace, a historical legacy she described as “particularly resonant with the challenges of our time.”

In this regard, the Austrian minister highlighted the tensions currently affecting the world, particularly in the Middle East, emphasizing the need to prioritize diplomatic and political solutions, and reaffirming Austria’s readiness to act in close coordination with Morocco in this respect.

For his part, Bourita stated that the MoU on strategic dialogue will enable both countries to better coordinate their actions and work together in favor of peace and stability at the global level.

He also noted that this coordination aims to produce a concrete impact on ongoing developments and is expected to continue through the implementation of commitments and the achievement of tangible results, demonstrating that despite geographical distance, a shared political will can establish a solid understanding.

Referring to Morocco-Austria relations spanning more than 240 years, Bourita stressed that the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues a consistent policy of strengthening its partnerships, as part of a dynamic of closer ties with the Republic of Austria.

Bourita also welcomed the bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Austria, based on shared values and interests, which has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt over time, adding that, with this MoU, it is set to be further strengthened for the benefit of both peoples.

Signed by Bourita and Meinl-Reisinger, the MoU establishing the strategic dialogue between Morocco and Austria is part of the two countries’ will to promote friendly relations and cooperation in several areas, notably political and economic, with a view to elevating them to a strategic partnership, in accordance with the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.
