Cairo: 161st Arab League Council of FMs Kicks off with Morocco’s Participation

The 161st session of the Arab League Council at foreign ministers’ level kicked off Wednesday in Cairo, with the participation of Morocco.

At the start of this meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, handed over the presidency of the current session to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Kingdom of Morocco having chaired the past session.

The Arab foreign ministers’ meeting discusses a number of political, economic, social, legal, financial and administrative issues, including joint Arab action, as well as the report of the Secretary-General of the Arab League under of the period between the 160th and 161st sessions, and on the ordinary Arab Summit scheduled for next May in Bahrain.

The discussions will also focus on an item relating to the Arab-Israeli conflict and developments in the Palestinian issue, in addition to the implementation of the Arab Peace Initiative and water security in the Arab world.

Shortly before this meeting, the Arab Ministerial Commission on Somalia examined ways to support this country in the face of attacks targeting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Likewise, the Arab Ministerial Commission on Turkish interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries also met.
