Relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Ecuador are experiencing “a new era of fruitful cooperation marked by strong momentum,” stated on Friday in Rabat the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
In a press statement following his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador, Gabriela Sommerfeld, Bourita noted that this new era is the result of the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency the Ecuadorian President, Daniel Noboa, aimed at elevating relations between the two countries to higher levels.
Bourita also stressed that Ecuador’s withdrawal, two years ago, of its recognition of the so-called “sadr”, followed by the signing of a roadmap between the two countries, has placed bilateral relations in a new phase based on mutual trust and fruitful cooperation.
This momentum will be strengthened by the opening of a Moroccan embassy in the Ecuadorian capital next September, following the initiative taken by this Latin American country to open an embassy in Rabat after withdrawing its recognition of the so-called “sadr”, he added.
Describing Ecuador as an “ally” of Morocco in Latin America, as well as within the framework of a series of steps, meetings and negotiations, Bourita praised the active role played by Gabriela Sommerfeld in “the evolution and change of certain positions” of countries in the region regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.
On the economic front, Bourita announced the upcoming signing of an agreement aimed at establishing a joint commission tasked with developing economic and trade relations between the two countries, as well as the establishment of a legal framework intended to protect investments and prevent double taxation, with the aim of promoting trade and investment opportunities between the two countries and elevating their economic and commercial exchanges to the level of excellence of their political relations.
He further noted that Morocco and Ecuador are active members of several alliances and initiatives aimed at strengthening security and stability at the regional and international levels, referring in this regard to coordination within the Security Council and international organizations where each of the two countries supports the other’s candidacies.
Bilateral relations are going through their best phase, thanks to His Majesty the King and the Ecuadorian President, he concluded, expressing the determination of both countries to work together in several areas, notably logistics, economy, security, politics and culture.
