Morocco took part, on Thursday in Riyadh, in the 2nd meeting of the Arab team tasked with negotiating with major international media companies, in application of the recommendations of the Arab League’s Council of Information Ministers.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, this meeting provided an opportunity to present the strategy for negotiating with major international media companies, namely Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Google and Amazon, so as to reach agreements in the interests of the Arab states hosting these companies’ services.
The meeting adopted a series of recommendations that will be gradually implemented as part of the negotiation process, while multiplying meetings to speed up the resolution of outstanding issues.
Morocco’s participation in this process is in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication to establish a fiscal framework for these companies operating in Morocco.
The aim is to generate additional resources, particularly for the media sector, to strengthen its development and competitiveness in a constantly changing global digital environment.
The implementation of this framework also strives to regulate digital content, by countering fake news and inappropriate content posted on these platforms, notably Google and Facebook.
At the meeting, Morocco called for speeding up the negotiation process with major national media institutions, in order to reach the desired objectives in the short and medium term.
The Arab League team tasked with negotiating with major international media and digital companies includes high-level media experts from several Arab countries and from media and communications sector, as well as the Arab States Broadcasting Union.
