The Federal Councillor, Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation, and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Ignazio Cassis, affirmed on Friday in Bern, following his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, who is on a working visit to Switzerland, that “Morocco, under the Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is a key partner for Switzerland on the southern shore of the Mediterranean and the African continent.”
In a Joint Communication adopted at the close of their meeting, the two officials also expressed their satisfaction regarding the achievement of several objectives set out in the Joint Declaration they signed in Bern in December 2021 and reaffirmed during the Federal Councillor’s visit to Rabat in June 2023.
They thus reviewed the progress of exchanges between Switzerland and Morocco in several key areas for both countries, particularly trade and investment, climate and renewable energy, mutual legal assistance, training, as well as social insurance.
Cassis and Bourita welcomed the launch, at the beginning of 2025, of a Swiss economic cooperation program in Morocco, financed by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
As the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries approaches — established upon Morocco’s independence in 1956 — Cassis and Bourita also reaffirmed their common will to continue strengthening the bilateral partnership.
Under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, Morocco establishes itself as a leading player and a strategic partner for Switzerland, particularly in terms of regional stability, economic development, and South-South cooperation.
