Morocco’s Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohammed Ouzzine is participating on July 8 and 9 in the Ningxia Hui Province, People’s Republic of China, in the international seminar titled “Path to Modernization: Lessons Learned from Chinese Theory and Practice in Poverty Eradication.”
This event, which will bring together prominent political figures, experts, and researchers from numerous countries, serves as a high-level platform for dialogue and the exchange of perspectives, expertise, and experiences, to bolster international efforts to eradicate poverty and reduce vulnerability, drawing inspiration from China’s experience rooted in theoretical innovation and practical effectiveness, according to a press release from the House.
Morocco, represented by Ouzzine, had the honor of leading the delegations of the thirty countries participating in this seminar— a first that clearly reflects the prominent position the Kingdom now holds on the international stage and the credibility of its experience in public policy and social development, in accordance with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This high-level mandate also illustrates the trust and appreciation Morocco enjoys among its international partners and confirms the strength of the ties of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the People’s Republic of China, the same source notes.
In addition to the capital, Beijing, the visit included several field visits to Chengdu, in Sichuan Province (southwestern China), where Ouzzine learned toured several projects implemented by local agricultural cooperatives that rely on mechanization and modern technologies to increase agricultural productivity and improve the sector’s efficiency.
Similarly, the House’s vice speaker held talks with Wang Xiaohui, secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Jin Xin, deputy minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee. Discussions focused on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Sichuan Province and Morocco, particularly in the context of implementing the memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between the province and the Casablanca-Settat region.
On this occasion, Chinese officials highlighted Morocco’s strategic assets, its internal political stability, and its leading role in North Africa, West Africa, and the Mediterranean region. They also praised the Kingdom’s growing manufacturing potential, its advanced infrastructure—including world-class ports, airports serving the entire national territory, and an advanced highway network—as well as its skilled workforce and promising human capital.
They further emphasized that ties between Morocco and China are currently experiencing one of the best periods in history, particularly following His Majesty the King’s historic visit to the People’s Republic of China in 2016, which marked a decisive turning point in the evolution of bilateral relations and laid the foundation for a multidimensional strategic partnership between the two countries.
During this visit, Ouzzine will hold several meetings with senior officials from the Ningxia Hui Province, including leaders of the Communist Party of China, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange experiences and expertise in areas of mutual interest.
He will also visit the China International Poverty Reduction Center in Beijing to learn about the mechanisms in place to fight poverty, the press release concludes.
