Rabat

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced on Monday the renewal of its confidence in Walid Regragui as the head coach of the national team.

In a press release, the FRMF stated that it has “renewed its confidence in the national head coach, Walid Regragui, while affirming its commitment to mobilize all resources necessary to ensure the full success of the national team.”

According to the same source, Fouzi Lejkaa, President of the FRMF and Chairman of the National Teams Commission, conducted a series of evaluation meetings with Walid Regragui, focusing on the national team’s participation in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (2023-AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

During these meetings, the national head coach reviewed the various stages of preparation for the Atlas Lions for this continental event and reflected on the team’s journey, which ended in the round of 16, “resulting in disappointment for all stakeholders in the football community,” as highlighted in the release.

The meetings also served as an opportunity to assess and learn from the Atlas Lions’ participation, particularly their recent performance against South Africa.

Lekjaa emphasized the importance of continuing the work to ensure that the Moroccan team and national football receive the recognition they deserve and to uplift the spirits of Moroccan supporters in upcoming competitions, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 35th edition of the AFCON, scheduled to be hosted in the Kingdom during the summer of 2025, in accordance with the High Royal Solicitude, as stated in the press release.
