Remains of One of Two Missing American Soldiers Found at Cap Draâ

Intensive search operations conducted by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) jointly with American forces led to the discovery and recovery, on May 9, 2026, of one of the two American soldiers participating in the African Lion 2026 exercise, who had been missing since May 2, 2026, near a cliff at Cap Draâ.

The body was spotted and recovered around 8:55 AM by elements of the FAR and Civil Protection following the combined efforts of land, sea, and air teams. According to the initial findings of the investigation, the deceased is indeed Lieutenant Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., according to a statement from the General Staff of the FAR.

The remains were transferred by helicopter to the morgue of the Moulay El Hassan Military Hospital in Guelmim, in accordance with established procedure, pending repatriation.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing to find the second American soldier, who has been missing since May 2, 2026.
