The first anniversary of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership signed by Morocco and the United Kingdom in Rabat on June 1, 2025, was celebrated Wednesday evening during a reception held at the British Parliament in London.

Attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakim Hajoui, along with a number of prominent British figures, the event provided an opportunity to review the progress achieved by Morocco and the UK, two countries linked by more than 800 years of historical relations, in strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Speakers highlighted the strong momentum that has characterized Moroccan-British relations since June 2025, noting that the Enhanced Strategic Partnership has paved the way for mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including defense, security, trade, healthcare, energy, and water, as well as opportunities related to the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

They stressed that efforts undertaken over the past year have been marked by concrete initiatives that are bringing renewed substance to the partnership between Rabat and London.

The gathering at Westminster came just days after a major bilateral business forum held in Morocco, bringing together private-sector representatives from both countries, and following the fourth session of the Morocco-UK Association Council, co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and the UK Minister of State for Trade Policy and Economic Security, Chris Bryant.

Bryant’s visit to Morocco provided an opportunity to reaffirm the shared ambition of doubling bilateral trade in the coming years and further strengthening two-way investment.

The participation of more than 50 British companies operating in sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services underscored the strong interest in building a long-term partnership between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

The reception at the Palace of Westminster was organized by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Morocco (APPG Morocco) and chaired by Member of Parliament and former minister Andrew Murrison.

Among those attending were Hamish Falconer, Minister of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for the Middle East and North Africa; Ben Coleman, the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Morocco and West Africa; and Joe Powell, Labour MP and Chair of “Labour Friends of Morocco” in the British Parliament.

Several other MPs and British business representatives also attended the celebration.
