Speaker of the House of Councillors, Enaam Mayara, held, here Wednesday, talks with Philippine Ambassador to Morocco, Leslie J. Baja.

During this meeting, Mayara highlighted the excellent bilateral relations, particularly in the political arena, rooted in shared human connections and values of understanding and mutual respect, according to a statement from the House of Councillors.

He emphasized the need for the two countries to enhance and bolster their relations across various sectors, especially in the economic sphere, which, according to Mayara, still falls short of the aspirations of both friendly nations.

The upper house speaker highlighted the importance of parliamentary cooperation in promoting and reinforcing bilateral ties, as well as in fostering cooperation and solidarity between the two nations.

He also expressed the legislative institution’s strong will to promote cooperation with the Senate of the Philippines and establish permanent channels for parliamentary dialogue to ensure continuous monitoring of bilateral and multilateral relations.

Regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, Mayara commended the Republic of the Philippines’ stance and steadfast support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the Philippines against all forms of separatism and in defense of its territorial integrity.

For his part, the Philippine ambassador acknowledged the level of political and diplomatic relations between the two countries, which are entering their fifth decade, emphasizing the need to leverage the fiftieth anniversary of bilateral relations to further promote bilateral cooperation, particularly in priority areas such as migration, combating climate change and promoting renewable energies.

Baja highlighted the significance of enhancing cooperation between parliamentarians from both nations through experience sharing, increased coordination, and consultation in various regional and international parliamentary forums on matters of mutual interest, the press release concluded.
