The First Vice-Speaker of the House of Councillors, Abdelkader Salama, held talks on Tuesday in Rabat with the Chairman of the Russia–Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Federation Council of Russia and Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Food Policy and Environmental Management, Alexander Dvoinykh, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom leading a high-level parliamentary delegation.

This meeting provided an opportunity to commend the quality of cooperation between the Moroccan and Russian legislative institutions, reflecting the strength of their friendly ties and their shared commitment to advancing parliamentary cooperation in service of the supreme interests of both countries, according to a statement from the House of Councillors.

Salama highlighted the special importance the Kingdom attaches to its relations with the Russian Federation, based on mutual respect and constructive dialogue within the framework of a multidimensional strategic partnership.

He emphasized the momentum of these relations through high-level exchanges, notably the Royal visits to Russia in 2002 and 2016, which helped consolidate political consultation and broaden the scope of bilateral cooperation.

He also stressed the importance of giving practical substance to the work of the parliamentary friendship group and strengthening mechanisms for consultation and coordination between committees, in order to facilitate the exchange of expertise and experiences and the sharing of best practices in legislative and institutional matters.

For his part, Dvoinykh affirmed that Russia considers Morocco a key and strategic partner on the African continent.

He also noted that this visit is part of efforts to inject new momentum into parliamentary cooperation, strengthen economic and tourism partnerships, and explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly in maritime fisheries, energy, digital transition, and pharmaceutical industries.

In this regard, Dvoinykh called for continued promotion of communication and exchange visits between the two countries’ parliaments, highlighting the importance of cooperation projects in the field of air transport.
