Istvan Jakab, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary,  had renewed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity during a visit to Rabat.

A statement from Morocco’s House of Representatives said Jakab is leading a high-level delegation on a working visit to the North African country.

Meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Rachid Talbi Alami, the Hungarian official reaffirmed his country’s support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the only solution to the Western Sahara dispute.

During the meeting, the two officials also emphasized their countries’ shared determination to boost ties.

“Morocco is a distinguished strategic partner,” the Hungarian official said, noting that both countries share the same values regarding the preservation of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the proper handling of migration challenges.

Talbi Alami echoed the same sentiment, emphasizing the promising opportunities to boost cooperation with Hungary at all levels, including economy, trade, tourism, and technological exchanges.

In November last year, Hungary renewed its steadfast support for Morocco’s Autonomy initiative.

The country reaffirmed its stance during the visit of Hungary’s Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto to Morocco.

“In our firm belief, the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco offers hope for a resolution to this conflict while respecting the UN resolutions,”  Szijjarto asserted at the time.

Similar comments by the Hungarian official visiting Morocco today comes amid a growing consensus within the international community, with numerous countries joining in echoing their steadfast support for Morocco’s autonomy plan and the kingdom’s territorial integrity.

Estonia joined the growing list earlier this week, handing Moroccan diplomacy an unprecedented opening in the Baltic region.
