The University of Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) opened a new branch of its College of Computing in Rabat.
The university announced the news today in a statement, saying that the new branach will teach cybersecurity, with the aim to to meet the growing demand for the sector both in Morocco and globally.
The new branch will offer a three year cybersecurity focused curriculum for the general student body, with the opportunity open to students from preparatory classes and bachelor’s programs.
The entrance exam is scheduled for June 2025, the statement said, noting that the program also complements the existing AI and machine learning focused curriculum at the Benguerir campus.
Commenting on the opening, President of the Steering Committee at UM6P College of Computing Rachid Guerraoui said the branch reinforces the school’s commitment to “advancing digital education in strategic areas, particularly cybersecurity.”
The project is also in line with UM6P’s vision to establish two centers in computing, including AI and Machine Learning in Benguerir and Cybersecurity in Rabat.
This is to “create a unique ecosystem that empowers students with the skills needed to lead digital transformation across Morocco and Africa,” Guerraoui added.
UM6P concluded its statement saying the computing college’s goal is to inspire innovation, offering engineering and PhD degrees in computer science.
The college is supported by 32 professors, 91 PhD students, and 239 undergraduate students.
The statement concluded detailing that the programs cover a balance between foundational knowledge and the latest technological advancements.
Morocco has been intensifying its position in the field.
A ranking from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ranked Morocco among the top five Arab countries in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index in September. The report said Morocco’s cybersecurity score climbed from 82.4% in 2020 to 97.5% this year.
