The Atlas Mountains in Morocco are attracting headlines after Forbes magazine named them one of the top three mountain destinations to visit in 2025, alongside the Dolomites in Italy and Chile’s Portillo Ski Resort in the Andes.
Pinterest Predicts is an annual report that draws on Pinterest’s search data over the year to predict trends for the coming year across travel and lifestyle with what it believes to be an 80 percent accuracy rate.
According to Forbes, the Atlas peaks are trending with searches up by 30 percent.
Morocco’s tourism numbers are rising fast. The country welcomed nearly 16 million visitors by November 2024, up 20 per cent from the same period in 2023. November alone saw 1.3 million tourists, a 31 percent jump compared to the previous year.
Forbes notes that Morocco has been a popular choice for a while now. Lonely Planet recommended the country in its 2024 travel guide bringing to the fore the High Atlas Mountains and North Africa’s tallest peak, Jebel Toubkal (4,167m).
Visitors can trek these stunning peaks, explore the Erg Chebbi dunes by camel, and sleep under the stars in the desert.
The UK’s Telegraph and The Times described Morocco as a great value-for-money destination in 2024.
Marrakech stood out for affordable all-inclusive deals, while the country’s modern rail system makes travel easy and budget-friendly.
Spanish families are especially drawn to Morocco. A survey by travel site Evaneos shows Morocco beating Egypt, Costa Rica, and Thailand as a top choice. The country offers a mix of antique and modern life just a short flight from Spain.
The Spanish magazine Dimension Turistica calls Morocco “the gateway to Africa” — with its charming and bustling markets, camel rides, and family-friendly cooking classes. Parents are impressed by the warm hospitality, making travel with children easier.
In 2023, Morocco saw a record 2.8 million Spanish tourists, nearly 40% more than the previous year. Spaniards now make up about 30% of visitors to the country.
Morocco is growing in popularity as an ideal tourist destination. As The Times puts it, “There’s a rich history [in Morocco] for culture vultures, a vibrant cuisine, and enough crafts to satisfy the most ardent shopaholic.”
