At just 19 years old, Moroccan rising football player Eliesse Ben Seghir has won the hearts of many, including Spanish media.
Spanish sports news outlet Mundo Deportivo has dedicated a new report on the young football player, shedding light not only on his spectacular performances with Monaco but also his dream to join FC Barcelona.
“There is a young left winger who is shining in Ligue 1 in France and recently recalled his biographical connection to FC Barcelona in the latest issue of Onze Mondial,” the Spanish news outlet said on Thursday, recalling his first trip to Spain when he visited FC Barcelona.
“On the first trip of my life, we went to Spain, to Barcelona. I was so happy. We visited Camp Nou, the training center, and I stayed there doing ‘dabs’ while my brother filmed me,” Mundo Deportivo quoted Ben Seghir as saying to Onze Mondial.
The news outlet also recalled the player’s “great season” at Monaco, where he scored several goals and provided four assists in 28 matches to date.
For Morocco’s Atlas Lions, Ben Seghir scored three goals in his eight appearances with the national squad.
In regards to his interest in the Spanish team, Ben Seghir’s previous interview also covered how all of his idols are FC Barcelona players, or more precisely those who triumphed and left their legacy despite their departure.
“In football, my example would be Neymar. I really like his freedom, and his style of play. All young people love Neymar and see themselves in him,” Ben Seghir said, describing the Brazilian star as an idol for many youths.
“There’s also Messi. What he does on the field is incredible,” the Atlas Lion said.
One of Ben Seghir’s best memories is when his club defeated Barcelona, noting that that victory did good for the whole team.
“Beating Barca is great,” referring to a 2-1 victory as part of the Champions League.
In December, Monaco announced Ben Seghir as the club’s most valuable player for the month of November.
“Having already won the MVP title for August, it was only fitting that Ben Seghir was named November’s MVP with 55% of the vote,” the club wrote.
The Atlas Lion is also proud of joining Morocco and representing the North African country.
“Whether here in Monaco or in Morocco, I have the confidence of the coach and I joined a team that was a semifinalist in the World Cup,” Ben Seghir recently said in another interview, noting he is “very happy” with his choice to represent Morocco over France.
