Thanks to its geographical position, its stability and its political vision, Morocco is a “key hub” for the Unites States in the region and beyond, said Michael Doran, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East at the Hudson Institute.
“The United States has to see Morocco as a key hub, and the connector between the Middle East, Europe and Africa,” Doran told MAP following a meeting, Friday in Washington, with Morocco’s Economy and Finance minister, Nadia Fettah, in presence of Moroccan ambassador to the U.S., Youssef Amrani.
“When you look at where it is geographically, you look at its stability, its political vision, I think there’s no alternative to Morocco,” underlined the expert, saying he was confident that the U.S.-Morocco ties can only succeed going forward. “I see nothing but success moving forward.”
Speaking of the Atlantic initiative launched by HM King Mohammed VI to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, Doran described it as a “visionary” strategy of the Sovereign.
The Hudson Institute expert, who hailed the initiative in terms of economic development and the opportunities it offers, noted that it also addresses Washington’s concerns for the Atlantic region.
“The United States is more and more concerned about the stability in the greater Atlantic region —on both sides of the Atlantic— and it’s quite a visionary position of the King” to launch such an initiative, Doran concluded.
