Moroccan Quran reciter Abdelbasset Ouarach has won second place in the first edition of the international “First of the First” Quran recitation competition, held in Turkiye.
The competition brought together top Quran reciters from around the world who had previously won first place in global Quran competitions over the past three years (2022, 2023, and 2024).
Ouarach won second place thanks to his exceptional mastery of Quranic recitation (tajwid), his clarity, precision, and emotional delivery. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented the award to the Moroccan reciter during the competition.
“By the will of Allah, I had the honor of representing my beloved country, the Kingdom of Morocco, in the first edition of the ‘First of the First’ competition held in Turkey,” Ouarach said on social media.
He dedicated his win to King Mohammed VI, his family, and his teachers who supported and guided him.
Ouarach has a long history of success in Quran competitions. In 2019, he came third in the final of the Katara International Quran Recitation Competition, held in Qatar during the holy month of Ramadan.
In 2023, Ouarach won first place at the Kuwait International Award for Memorizing, Reciting, and Perfecting the Qur’an.
He also placed third in the “Global Reciter” category of the fourth edition of Bahrain’s online Quran recitation competition in 2024.
Ouarach’s achievements reflect his dedication, skill, and the strong presence of Moroccan talent in the world of Quran recitation.
