Morocco and France signed a declaration of intent on Wednesday in Marrakech to enhance cooperation in preventing violence against women and promoting gender equality.
The agreement was signed by Moroccan Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Naïma Ben Yahia, and French Minister Delegate for Gender Equality and the Fight Against Discrimination, Aurore Bergé. It outlines plans for joint training programs, the exchange of best practices in counseling and support services, and the creation of a Franco-Moroccan network of associations working with at-risk groups.
Under the deal, Morocco will set priorities for joint initiatives and promote cooperation between its support centers, while France will organize training sessions and support the new association network.
The agreement also provides for regular biannual administrative meetings and an annual high-level review.
Speaking at the signing, Ben Yahia said the agreement would build on both countries’ progress in gender equality and social development, stressing the value of shared expertise in tackling violence against women.
Bergé described the accord as a step toward “the eradication of violence,” highlighting the key role of civil society in reinforcing cooperation beyond the governmental level.
