A heatwave with temperatures ranging between 40 and 47°C, and thunderstorms accompanied with hail and gusty substorm winds are expected from Wednesday to Saturday in several Moroccan provinces, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in an orange alert bulletin.
From Wednesday to Saturday, temperatures between 44 et 47°C are expected in provinces of Tata, Taroudant, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour and Aousserd, the DGM says.
Temperatures will also fluctuate between 44 et 47°C, in provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Kelaa Sraghna, Rehamna, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tan-Tan, Guelmim and Laayoune.
Additionally, scorching heat (40 to 44°C) is expected on Wednesday in provinces of Ouezzane, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Khouribga, Khemisset, Taza, Taounate, Guercif, Sefrou and Khenifra.
A rise of temperatures (40 to 44°C) is also predicted in provinces of Essaouira, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni and Tarfaya, the DGM reports.
Thunderstorms with hailstorms and gusts of substorm winds will concern many provinces from 1p.m to 10p.m.
Rainfall (20-40 mm) will be recorded in provinces of Al Haouz, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Azilal and Tinghir, while 15-30 mm are expected in Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Khenifra, Chichaoua, Midelt, Al Hoceïma, Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif and Kelaa Sraghna, based on DGM’s alert.
