Presidents and members of African economic and social councils praised the leadership role of the Kingdom of Morocco in steering the work of the Union of African Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (UCESA), highlighting the Kingdom’s contribution to strengthening the organization’s continental reach and impact internationally.
In statements to MAP on the sidelines of UCESA’s General Assembly, held Monday in Malabo, participants commended the progress achieved under Morocco’s chair, particularly in terms of restructuring, openness and enhanced cooperation within the pan-African organization.
They underscored the pivotal role played by Morocco’s Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) in enshrining the Union’s positioning, expanding its membership and supporting member institutions.
President of Equatorial Guinea’s Council for Economic and Social Development Marcelino Owono Edu welcomed the admission of new members, notably Equatorial Guinea and Angola, saying it reflects UCESA’s growing influence across Africa.
For his part, Coordinator of Angola’s Economic and Social Council José Octávio Serra-Vandunem described Morocco as the “driving force” behind UCESA, while expressing his institution’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom and other member states in several strategic sectors.
In turn, Executive Director of Zimbabwe’s Tripartite Negotiating Forum Nyakadzumbo Albert highlighted the quality of relations with Morocco’s CESE, particularly in connection with initiatives related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
UCESA held its ordinary General Assembly Monday in Malabo under the theme “United by Dialogue, Committed to Development,” attended by several African and international institutional representatives.
