Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s flag carrier, launched its first direct flight between Casablanca and Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, on Wednesday.
The new air route is part of the airline’s development strategy to strengthen its position as a leading carrier in Africa, RAM said in a press release.
The inaugural flight departed from Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport at 11:40 p.m. and landed at N’Djamena International Airport at 5:05 a.m. the next morning. The route will operate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
With this addition, RAM now offers 29 direct routes across Africa. The company explained that the new line responds to the needs of customers living in Chad, especially those traveling on to Europe and the Americas through Casablanca’s hub.
Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, said the launch of this new direct flight to N’Djamena demonstrates the company’s “commitment” to Africa. “It fits fully within our ambitious development plan, in line with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to strengthen South-South cooperation,” he stated.
Addou added that every new route RAM launches helps Casablanca grow as a major hub for international connections. “It also confirms our leadership in African air transport. We are proud to offer our customers a wider and more efficient network, along with a travel experience that meets the highest international standards,” he concluded.
The airline stated that the new route is part of its broader continental strategy to expand within Africa and improve connections between African countries, while also linking the continent to the rest of the world.
The addition comes as Morocco gears up to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will see fans flocking from across the continent to support their teams and attend Africa’s biggest sporting event.
