Morocco is now reaping the rewards of an ambitious, long-term sports strategy built on careful planning and investment in national football development, said UEFA journalist and analyst Pedro Pinto.

Following Morocco’s emphatic victory at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, the country is experiencing “a historic moment in its football journey,” Pinto told MAP on the sidelines of the World Football Summit held in Madrid.

The Portuguese analyst praised the “remarkable progress” of Moroccan football, recalling that Morocco first made history in 1986 by becoming the first African and Arab team to reach the World Cup knockout stage in Mexico.

“Since then, Moroccan football has evolved tremendously at both club and national levels,” he said, citing the sustained work carried out by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the country’s clubs to enhance competitiveness, infrastructure, and professionalism.

“Morocco is today reaping the benefits of a coherent and ambitious sports policy,” Pinto noted, adding that the Kingdom “has become a model of success and good governance in African football.”

He also expressed confidence that Morocco, buoyed by its current momentum, is “ready to write new chapters of glory” as it prepares to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
