Dachser is constructing a state-of-the-art logistics facility on a 75,000 square meter plot in Tangier Automotive City. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2026, and it recently secured MAD 206.5 million ($20.65 million) in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The company has maintained a presence in Morocco since 1984 and recognized Tangier’s potential early. Dachser opened its first site near the port in 2003, followed by a 5,500 square meter warehouse with over 7,000 pallet spaces at Tangier Med in 2021.
The company is 99.9% owned by Dachser France, itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German family group Dachser Group SE & Co. KG. It offers a complete range of integrated logistics services, including transport, customs, and storage, with connections to 18 European countries.
The new facility will serve as a multimodal logistics hub combining road transport, air freight, sea freight, and warehousing services. It will initially include a 20,000 square meter warehouse with dedicated customs facilities, making it Morocco’s first private logistics building certified under international sustainability standards.
“Our new platform will offer a complete range of services throughout the transport and logistics chain,” said Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser, during a recent groundbreaking ceremony. The site’s proximity to the port will provide clients with faster transit times and optimal network connectivity.
The EBRD loan is structured in two tranches: a firm tranche of MAD 160 million ($16 million) and an uncommitted tranche of MAD 46.5 million ($4.65 million). The total project cost amounts to MAD 284.3 million ($28.43 million).
Dachser Morocco currently employs 232 people across six logistics sites in the country. The company generated net revenues of MAD 341.8 million ($34.18 million) in 2024, handling 55,700 shipments totaling 292,700 tons.
“At Tangier Med, we prepare orders and label products for European markets under local conditions,” explained M’hamed Chraibi, Regional Managing Director Maghreb & Türkiye at Dachser. This provides significant cost advantages compared to European processing rates.
Morocco emerges as a vital logistics hub
The expansion responds to changing global supply chain requirements that now demand not only cost-effectiveness but also geopolitical stability, rapid accessibility, and simplified management. The Maghreb region, particularly Morocco, has become crucial for industrial companies due to its European proximity.
Tangier Med, opened in 2007 and continuously expanded since then, serves as a strategic connection point between North Africa and global markets.
This deep-water port with its free zone has developed into an international logistics center on the Strait of Gibraltar, serving 186 ports worldwide and housing over 900 companies from various sectors.
“In Tangier Med, we’ve established a stable bridge between continents,” stressed Chraibi. The focus is on supply and distribution flows for the automotive and textile industries, as well as aerospace and retail sectors.
Beyond physical expansion, EBRD is supporting Dachser Morocco in adopting higher environmental standards than typically observed in the local market.
The new site aims to obtain EDGE Advanced certification, marking a first for Dachser in Morocco. This green certification validates high performance in energy efficiency, water consumption, and sustainable materials.
The project will additionally benefit from support through the Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) program to finance investments in advanced green technologies.
These include high-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, innovative construction materials, resource efficiency improvement devices, and on-site renewable energy generation.
Dachser Morocco will also work with EBRD to improve gender integration in the logistics sector, committing to recruit at least 15 women for operational positions in the new warehouse and providing specialized training for managers.
The company’s operations at Tangier Med are fully digitalized, ensuring speed and transparency. Morocco’s customs formalities are increasingly digitized and simplified, with Dachser Morocco’s certification as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) marking an important step in this direction.
“The combination of Road Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics divisions at a single site creates efficient end-to-end solutions, strengthening our support for clients’ nearshoring strategies,” said Chraibi, spotlighting Dachser’s commitment to facilitating trade between Europe and North Africa’s emerging economies.
The company is also developing a new customs warehouse in Marrakech to complement existing facilities in Mohammedia and Tangier, which will simplify import and export processes.
Since early 2023, Dachser’s Strasbourg gateway has provided daily shuttles to Morocco, consolidating European volumes and organizing regular departures with defined delivery schedules.
