Morocco was re-elected yesterday to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the period of 2026-27 at the 34th session of the IMO Assembly at the UN’s headquarters in London which commenced last week and is still ongoing.
The session examines strategic priorities, adopts key resolutions, and elects the new IMO council. Morocco was able to gather support of the majority Member States of the Organization to access its 17th term in the Council on one of the 20 seats in the Category C of the IMO.
Morocco’s participation in this high-level global gathering is led through a strong delegation of the Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouth. The assembly also elected last week Morocco’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakin Hajoui, as the first vice-president of the 34th session of the Assembly.
The Moroccan delegation was also made up of senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries, and National Port Agency and the Tanger-Med Port Authority.
