President of Morocco’s High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), Latifa Akharbach, took part, on January 8-12 in Benin, in an election observation mission dedicated to the media coverage of the legislative and communal elections in the West African country.

The mission focused in particular on the measures implemented to ensure equitable access for Beninese political parties to public and private media.

Along with the presidents of regulatory bodies of Côte d’Ivoire, which currently ensures the presidency of the Network of African Communication Regulation Authorities (RIARC), Senegal, Togo, Central African Republic and Burundi, the Moroccan delegation took part in several field visits and meetings organized by Benin’s High Authority of Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC).

In this context, the RIARC delegation held discussions with Sacca Lafia, President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENA), and Yvon Détchénou, minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, and responsible for institutional coordination between the government and independent constitutional institutions.

The mission also met with the president and members of the HAAC’s College of Advisors to discuss issues related to the integrity of the media campaign, ensuring pluralism of political expression, and taking into account territorial and linguistic diversity.
