The Kingdom of Bahrain has reiterated its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and for the autonomy initiative as a realistic and feasible solution.
Bahrain “reaffirms its position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the autonomy initiative for settling the Moroccan Sahara issue,” according to a statement from Morocco’s House of Councillors citing a joint statement.
The document was issued on the occasion of the official visit by the Speaker of the House, Mohamed Ould Errachid, to Bahrain from 12 to 16 January, at the invitation of the Chairman of Bahrain’s Shura Council, Ali Bin Saleh Al-Saleh.
In this regard, Bahrain welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on 31 October 2025, as an “important step toward a realistic and applicable solution,” the statement added.
According to the statement, the visit falls within the framework of strengthening the brotherly ties and distinguished cooperation between the two countries, in line with the High Guidelines of their leaders, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and His brother, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain.
In this context, the Chairman of Bahrain’s Shura Council emphasized that the historical depth, rooted fraternal relations, and close cooperation between the two brotherly Kingdoms embody the highest values of brotherhood, partnership, and shared destiny, noting that the strong ties between the two Kingdoms rest on solid foundations.
He also praised Morocco’s efforts to build bridges of communication and cooperation among the parliaments of Arab and African countries, as well as its hosting of parliamentary dialogues and constructive meetings, reflecting a shared commitment to expand legislative and parliamentary cooperation.
For his part, Ould Errachid commended Bahrain’s leading role in Asia, as well as its active contribution to strengthening regional parliamentary action and consolidating dialogue and cooperation among Asian parliaments.
He welcomed Bahrain’s chairmanship of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly starting January 2026, expressing confidence that this would mark an important step in strengthening joint parliamentary action and serve as a powerful driver for bringing Asian countries closer together and promoting regional integration.
The Speaker of the House of Councillors also expressed his commitment to promoting parliamentary cooperation between Africa and Asia, leveraging Morocco’s strategic position and deep African roots.
He further affirmed his determination to strengthen interregional parliamentary partnerships and support South-South dialogue to address common challenges and contribute to consolidating peace, development, and shared prosperity.
